Traditional Greek Chapels

What I love most, is the small whitewashed traditional chapels intertwined with the unparalleled plaiting of Greek earth. The chapels that are washed by the endless Homeric Sea or emerge through the endless green of olive groves on the plains. The chapels bathed by the dazzling light on top of a mountain… these chapels are the trademark of Greece, a bridge connecting heaven and earth.

During the past years, but even still today, on the islands and in villages, Greek families used to build small traditional chapels on their properties and the fields, dedicated to the name of Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary or the  Saints. Commemorating the name of the chapel, every year especially during summer months, they invite all the locals and visitors to have a liturgy at the chapel and celebrate, keeping the old traditions in a Greek Orthodox way.
